week #9

Forgot to post this the other night. I'm not drinking alcohol this week. Prohibition - WOOOOO.

When I was in college and would come home for fall break or christmas break or whatever, my dad used to always joke about checking to see if my brothers or I had the DTs. "Oh, good, you aren't all shakey. Guess you aren't an alcoholic yet." Yep, that's the kind of family I had. Alcoholic jokes. We're classy.

Anyway, it's been a day and a half and I'm not twitching yet. I really only drink of the weekends, so I don't think this will be too hard. It's good to take some time off every once and a while. Cleanse the system. Give the ol' liver a rest.

Anyone want to meet up later for a hot cocoa perhaps?

(Check out that gal on the bottom left. She's a real looker.)

Week #8

Why hello week 8. Nice to see you. My word, this year is just flying by.

My birthday is this week. It'll be the first time ever in my life I turn - gasp - 27. I'm also going to a new bar for my bday get together. My friend Andy and I are sharing the day because we were born mere hours apart (my first joint birthday event). That's enough new for the week. Maybe I'll go to a new restaurant as well. I don't know, I just don't want to do something restrictive for my favorite week of the year. I was going to give up TV for the week, but then remembered... OLYMPICS.

Ooooooooh Olympics. I could watch them forever. I don't care which sport - curling, speed skating, snowboarding, ski jump - I love them all. Honestly though, I get a little depressed that now, turning 27, I am most likely too old to acheive my dream of becoming an Olympian. I mean, for the 2014 games I'll be 31. That's like 124 in Olympic years. I will have to settle for oogling Shaun White, Apolo Ohno, Jonny Moseley, and the like.

So, to recap this post:
- I'm turning old on Monday
- I'm obsessed with the Olympics
- I have a bit of a crush of Shaun White... there, I said it. It's all that glorious, unruly red hair.
- I'm semi-punking out of my new thing this week.

Week #7

Sorry for being a little behind this week. First, let's talk about the new beer new thing from last week. I think I'm going to keep it going for a while longer. I only had 6 new beers for the week. Nothing impressive or life altering. Although, I found a few beers that I now know I like. And I'm pretty sure I can safely say I don't like IPAs. Life lesson learned.

Oh, and you know how a couple weeks ago I signed up for art school? This past Tuesday was my first class. I was a little nervous, and I showed up late. I hate being late. It was snowing that night, so traffic was a little slower than normal, and also, the buildings aren't clearly marked so I couldn't find where I was supposed to be. I was only 5 minutes late, but I was sure it would cause the teacher to hate me right off the bat. But, there was someone even later than me and someone else's cell phone went off in class (umm... really?), so I think I'm good. Anyway, it was fun and I remembered a lot from my earlier design classes. Basically, I am a star pupil.

Oh, but this week's new thing - you want to hear about that right. Well, I went to a psychic. I've never done that before (obviously) - tarot cards and palm reading and all that jazz. I don't believe in it, but I thought it would be fun if nothing else. So, what my palm wrinkles say about me is the following:

1. I have a long life and health line. I've always thought I would die young, so this is good news.
2. I'm strong willed. (Isn't that how people describe a misbehaving child? "Oh no, my kid isn't a holy terror, she's just strong willed.")
3. There's going to be a change in my life in about 6 months. Can't wait till August.
4. She seemed really surprised that I am not now, nor have I ever been married. Sheesh, she's worse than my mother.
5. I need to let go of negativity.

Let's talk about this last one for a minute. I told a couple friends about my reading, and they laughed immediately at this. I want to say, while yes, I am great at complaining and bitching, I do not have a negative outlook in general. Just like Kirk Douglas, I have a lust for life. I'm like a ray of sunshine.

No offense Fay, you're a lovely dame, but I think I might go to another psychic to see how the two reading stack up.

Week #6 - new beers

Two posts in one day???? Unheard of.

Just wanted to post an update on my first night of new beers before I forgot. I had three new ones for the night, and they were all over the map.

1. Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball - I was trying something new, and this one was definitely a little too hoppy and bitter for me. It came in a goblet which was pretty cool, but at 9.0 ABV, it was also pretty strong, and you could tell by the taste. Fun name, but probably not something I'm going to have again.

2. Buckeye Heidi - from Lakewood's own Buckeye Brewing Company. It's a German Pilsner, and while I liked it much better than number one, it wasn't something to rave about either. It had an after taste that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Not terrible, but not fantastic either. Of course, maybe my glass just had a little Dawn residue on it.

3. Breckenridge Vanilla Porter - by far the best of the night. According to the description on the website, it's an herb and spice beer with a smooth roasted chocolate flavor and a vanilla finish. I don't know about all that. I couldn't taste any chocolate - and trust me, I am a chocolate freak - but the beer was dark with no bitterness at all. Veeeeeeery smooth. I was a fan, and after all this new beer trying is over, I think I'll order this one again.

Now, the question is, how is my stomach/body going to feel about all this in the morning? (And no, I'm not a lightweight. Three beers did not do me in. There were shots and martinis interspersed with all this new beer drinkin')

Week #6 - got it

Well, this isn't travelling to Antarctica or anything spectacular, but it is new. For this week (heck, maybe for the rest of the month, we'll see how it goes) I'm going to try new beers. No Bud light, Miller light, Pabst, Yeungling, etc. All new beers. I can't order anything that I've already had. Ever. So if I order an Iron City to start the night, my next beer has to be something different. Yah, that's right, I'm from Pittsburgh and have never had any Iron City. I'm awesome like that.

So, I'm thinking this is going to be either really easy or just frustrating. What if I don't go out at all this week? No beers drank. Challenge over - easy as that. But, on the other hand, what if I order some really terrible beverages? And what if the mixture of all that really awful beer in my stomach causes some unpleasant side effects? Eh, we'll see how it goes. I'm thinking it'll be fun and interesting and perhaps I'll find out I really like Köstritzer Schwarzbier. First, I'll just have to find a bar that sells it.

Week #6

Gaaaaaaaaah

I don't know what to do this week. I'm also a little bummed out because it seems this guy was on to my plan and did way more crazy fun things AND made a film about it. How can I compete with that?

Quick. I need an idea. A wild, crazy new thing for week 6. Please help.
