week #13 equals

MASSIVE FAIL

week #13

Hey, come down to the Boneyard tonight (err, I guess it's also called Forti's, but it'll always be the Boneyard in my heart). I'm guest bartending. Sorta. I think. I've never been a bartender. I grew up in a restaurant and bar that my grandparents owned and my mom worked at, so I know how to pour a good draft. I really just don't know how to make shots and mixed drinks and such, but whatever, it's all in good fun.

Okay, so maybe I wouldn't really call it guest bartending, because I'll probably only do it for a little bit of time. But the bartenders there are good guys and know me and said I could get behind the bar for a while. Just don't ask me for anything difficult. No one ever needs to order an Appletini anyway.

Side note: As I'm writing this, I'm watching "The Prestige" on TV. This movie sucks me in every time. Hugh Jackman. Christian Bale. Michael Caine. Magicians trying to outdo each other. The big twist at the end. Great movie. That's all. I don't have anything witty to say about it. Just wanted to say I really like it.

week #12 update

So, got back from New York City Sunday night. Man, what fun. Here's a list of some new stuff:

  • ate cow heart
  • dined at the Spotted Pig
  • managed to be fully functional for 3 days while getting less than 7 hours of sleep
  • finally started to learn my way around NYC a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit
  • shared a cab with a random girl and then threatened her life
  • ate falafel (I know right. I totally should have had that by now.)
  • PICKLES
  • did NOT make any purchases aside from food and booze

I'm sure there's a bunch of other stuff that I forget/can't think of now. But, my brain is fried. Seriously, when people ask me a question, it takes me a good 5 seconds for what they just said to me to register. I think the weekend killed all my good brain cells leaving me barely able to function.

Oh, and one other new thing that has nothing to do with New York. I renewed my lease on my apartment. Yep, I'm staying put this year. For as long as I've been living on my own, I've changed apartments every time my lease was up (and sometimes before) but not in 2010. YAY year of new things.

week #12

First, let me tell you, the cherry thing didn't work. However, I was told that this wasn't a fair chance for cherries. March is not cherry-time. So, I'll probably have to re-attempt this in the summer when cherries are in season.

Guess what I'm doing tomorrow morning? It's off to NYC for me and a few friends. I've been there a bunch of times, so going to NYC isn't new. But I'm sure new stuff will be done. Some things I'll tell you about when I get back, and some things will probably die with me, or just get posted to Facebook. Peace out, yo.

week #11

I hate cherries. I am generally a culinary goat. I'll try anything. But cherries, I just can't get past cherries. I don't like the actual fruit. I don't like the ones you get on top of sundaes. I don't like cherry-flavored anything. I'm skeptical of red colored candy because it could be strawberry, ooooor, it could be cherry.

When I was in college, I read this article about businessmen in Japan. Doing business in Japan meant that CEOs and such from the US had to respect the customs and culture of the execs from Japan, which meant going out and eating sushi. The article went on to say the US businessmen would have to eat sushi, even if they didn't like it, so as not to offend their Japanese hosts. The trick to teaching yourself to like something, was doing it/eating it for 9 days. (I think it was 9 days... it could be a week or two weeks, but I can't find this article on the internet and for some reason that number sticks out, so I'm going with it.)

I really like sushi, so doing business in Japan would be A-Okay for me, but I'm trying to use this theory on my hatred of cherries. I'm eating 2 cherries a day for this week. Maybe at the end of the week I will LOVE cherries, but I'm doubtful. I think I have some repressed cherry memories from when I was a kid. Or maybe it's that I was scarred from that scene from the Witches of Eastwick where they all start spitting up cherry pits.

week #10 - mid-week new thing

Bonus new thing this week - new tooth paste! I felt like a real loser tonight as I checked out of Giant Eagle with my brand new purchase. Who gets excited over tooth paste? Well, evidently I do. So, as I was going over my options in the tooth paste aisle, I kept thinking of how much I hate the shape of tooth paste tubes. They always get so messy at the top, and I can never get all the paste out of it and one time I didn't quite pay enough attention and got cinnamon flavored and it was awful. Anyway, I decided to try the new Iso Active tooth paste.

Look at how exciting it seems. I started out really disappointed with it. It's supposed to get all foamy in your mouth to seek out those "hard to reach places." I am a piss poor flosser, so I thought this might help get all those crevices between my teeth. (Except for the front two, which have a gap so wide in between it could fit a semi... ooooooooooh snap.) The foaming action was not quite as "active" as billed. Plus, the minty flavor seemed a bit weak. I was going to write off this tooth paste as a waste of money, but then...

It's been almost 20 minutes since I brushed and the minty clean feeling seems to have intensified. It's like it's still foaming and cleaning in my mouth. And, the different mechanism for getting the cleaning agent out makes my previous issues with tubes of tooth paste obsolete. Day one, brush one, and I think I'm a fan.

week #10

Ummm... so the no alcohol thing is just not for me. Not that I was out boozing it up every night, but you know what, after a long hard week at work, I just want a beer with my burger for dinner. So, I guess in the end it just turned out that I drank a lot less. I just practiced more self control. Not out till 2 a.m. dancing on the bar and such. Oh, speaking of which, there's a new Larry Flynt Hustler Club opening next to my apartment in two weeks. Just saying - stop on by.

This week I'm going to the library. I have my library card, but I just don't use it and there's a gorgeous-looking library building downtown. I used to love going to the library when I was younger. I'm a huge fan of books. I love the way they feel and smell. I could never get a Kindle because you don't get the same feel. Anyway, I used to love going to the library to look at all the books, and then sit and people watch. I kind of miss it, so I'm going to rectify that situation. Plus, you can check out music CDs and then rip them to your computer, and then my DJ career will take off.
